Hotels, Tourism Boards, and Travel Companies that have Promised Diversity
This past year has brought change in so many ways. Racial injustice in our country between the Black Lives Matter movement and Asian American and Pacific Island hate crimes. Gender inequality and representation remains an issue with a disproportionate number of layoffs affecting women. In the travel world, female travel is a niche when it shouldn’t have to be. Though travel lends itself to learning about various cultures, languages, and ethnicities — there is a still lack of diversity and unconscious bias that persists in the travel industry. More than 60% of participants in a survey conducted by Hcareers found the travel industry to be more diverse compared to other industries in their opinion. Black travelers,however, disagreed and found the industry to be less diverse.
It became quite apparent that there’s a need for change in hiring practices, marketing campaigns, advertising, and inclusivity amongst target audiences. Many employees, industry professionals, content creators raised their voice to hold companies accountable and commit to racial justice and representation.
